JRMA Partners with HDR to Transform Glendale Recycling Center and Shape the Future of Materials Management
Brea, CA (November 30, 2023) JRMA (J. R. Miller & Associates), a leading architectural, engineering, and planning firm specializing in the design of solid waste and recycling transfer stations, materials recovery facilities (MRFs), and anaerobic digestion/biogas plants (AD), is excited to announce its collaboration with HDR, a leading global consulting firm, to play a pivotal role in revitalizing the Glendale Recycling Center and defining the future of recycling and materials management for the City of Glendale. Under this partnership, JRMA will bring its expertise to assist HDR in the comprehensive "Glendale Recycling Center Master Plan 2025-2045" project.
The Glendale Recycling Center, serving the local community since 2005, has faced operational challenges, including stormwater compliance and evolving state regulations such as AB 341 (Mandatory Commercial Recycling), AB 1826 (Mandatory Commercial Organics Recycling), and SB 1383 (Short-Lived Climate Pollutants). Furthermore, the recycling industry has been impacted by shifting global markets, including China's National Sword policy, and the impending closure of the Scholl Canyon Landfill in 2025 necessitates a thorough assessment of refuse transportation and disposal needs.
JRMA's scope of services for the Glendale Recycling Center Master Plan project includes reviewing historical data, analyzing site conditions, providing input on waste stream forecasts and regional material management alternatives, and collaborating with HDR to develop a comprehensive Master Plan. JRMA’s role encompasses data review, site assessment, and contributing to recommendations for the center's immediate changes, long-term operation, and future development.
JRMA was originally involved in the design of the Recycling Center in 2002 and is well-positioned to assist in crafting a sustainable and forward-looking vision for its future.
