JRMA’s CEO and Founder Receives SWANA’s 2022 Professional Achievement Award
Brea, CA (December 7, 2022) JRMA, a leading architectural, engineering, and planning firm specializing in the design of solid waste facilities including transfer stations, materials recovery facilities (MRFs), and anaerobic digestion/biogas plants (AD), is pleased to announce that Jim Miller, CEO and Founder of JRMA, has been awarded SWANA’s 2022 Professional Achievement Award for a private sector member. The award was presented yesterday to Mr. Miller at SWANA’s WASTECON® conference and leadership summit in San Diego, CA.
Jim was recognized for his many contributions to the solid waste industry over the past forty years and his role as a leading design professional and technical advisor for the planning and design of solid waste processing facilities. Mr. Miller has been a SWANA member since 2003 and is a member of the Collection & Transfer Technical Division, where he has served in leadership positions (and currently chairs the Legislative/Advocacy Committee). He has been a guest lecturer at several California colleges and universities, presented at numerous SWANA and industry conferences, and written articles for a variety of industry publications.

Mr. Miller started JRMA in 1982 after spending five years as an engineer specializing in the design-build of industrial facilities and two years as a plant engineer for an aerospace components manufacturer. JRMA celebrated its 40th anniversary this year.
Mr. Miller is well adept at designing facilities to maximize functionality and efficiency to minimize life-cycle costs. His knowledge concentrates on seamlessly integrating process and non-process elements of processing plants and sites. Jim’s primary focus is organic waste processing facilities, and his range of expertise includes manufacturing, food processing, and other solid waste facilities. Mr. Miller has been part of the planning, design, engineering, construction, and equipment installation for more than 100 solid waste facilities including transfer stations, materials recovery facilities (MRFs), anaerobic digestion (AD), and other organics processing facilities.
