Press Release June 07, 2021

Portland, OR (June 17, 2021) — JRMA (J. R. Miller & Associates, Inc.), a leading architectural and engineering firm specializing in the design of solid waste recycling and transfer stations, materials recovery facilities (MRFs), and anaerobic digestion/biogas plants (AD), is pleased to announce that they have been awarded the commercial food waste and processing design project by Metro in Portland, Oregon at its Metro Central Transfer Station.

JRMA will complete a multi-phase scope of work including schematic and preliminary design; final engineering design/construction documents; assist CM/GC with procurement of equipment selection process; and permitting, bidding and construction services. Metro joins several other jurisdictions, including the State of California, to ban or limit food waste disposal and instead process organics to generate renewable energy and/or compost. The commercial food waste processing facility at the Metro Central Transfer Station will be an essential element to support their current regional food waste collection program, serve as a model for future food waste processing efforts, and enable them to substantially reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
