Rialto Bioenergy Facility

Rialto, CA

Rialto Bioenergy Facility (RBF) is the largest landfill-diverted organics to renewable natural gas facility in North America, playing a critical role in cutting methane emissions from landfills and achieving California’s carbon neutrality goal and SB 1383 organics diversion goals.  RBF converts up to 300,000 tons per year of landfill-diverted organic waste and biosolids from municipal wastewater treatment facilities into fertilizer and up to 985,000 MMBTU per year of carbon-negative RNG. Organic waste is polished leveraging Anaergia’s organics polishing system and digested in two 3.5MG digesters equipped with Anaergia’s high-throughput, high-efficiency mixing technology. Beginning in Fall 2022, biosolids will be converted into high value biochar fertilizer using Anaergia’s unique pyrolysis system, which is currently being installed.

The carbon-negative renewable natural gas produced at the facility is used primarily as fuel to replace diesel in heavy-duty trucks, reducing air pollution and greenhouse gas emissions from the transportation sector.

JRMA has provided various structural engineering support services for RBF including ongoing design support for the pyrolysis system.
